Obi Cubana has headlined many discussions in the past days, following the lavish funeral he organized for his mother in Oba, his hometown. Finding himself in the spotlight, he took it as an opportunity to encourage everyone to work hard, indicating that he and his friends went through a lot to become the persons they are today.
Obinna Iyiegbu, as the 46-year old’s real names are, was speaking to the BBC a few days ago and said that, no one has the right to tell him how he should spend the money he suffered to get. This was in reaction to individuals who would make comments about him showing off and wasting money.
The businessman told such people to rather put their energy in things that will get them out of poverty “there is no ‘cutting of soap’ for anybody in this world. Work, pray, be good, and that’s how you make your own ‘soap’” Obi Cubana said; the “soap” being something like help or opportunity to easily make money.
He explained that his mother’s burial went viral because the energy they put in, was exactly what they had planned for her 80th birthday which finally did not happen. So they redirected everything to the funeral.
The people who attended and made it a big event as Obi Cubana indicated, did it of their free will and to show the love they have. The Political Science graduate, used himself and his friends as an example of people who have tried several things and failed, till they arrived at what started working for them. The main message passed, was therefore, that of never giving up while being happy for people that succeed around you.
