Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, visited Cameroon last week and made some interesting revelations about himself, while speaking on Cameroon Calling over the State broadcaster on Sunday, August 1, 2021.
Among several things which he mentioned, was the resolution of the Bakassi conflict between Nigeria and Cameroon. He said they did it for the good of the people and not to get personal rewards “We didn’t do that for the purpose of winning a Nobel Prize. We did it because it was necessary for us and for our people.
“If anybody sees what I have done to influence humanity for good as something that should be rewarded that’s fine, but that should not be the purpose for me to do good for my people. Doing good for my people means that wherever I see a dispute, I should try and prevent it” Obasanjo said.
He explained that he has been building his relationship with God which was further strengthened with a PhD in Theology. Talking about education, especially in his family, he revealed that eight of his children equally have PhDs. As the 84-year old former president indicated, he is not only recognized for his works in politics, but also for his efforts in promoting and encouraging education.
Obasanjo considers Cameroon as his second home. He disclosed that, after completing his training in the army, the first place he came for operation was Cameroon, particularly in Bamenda. He said since then, he has been in and out of the country on several occasions.
