Yango has taken note of the Press Release from the Ministry of Transport of February 06, 2023 urging Cameroonian transport operators to suspend the use of digital platforms. They call the attention to the fact that Yango is an international digital platform operating via a mobile application and not a transport operator. Yango serves transport companies and their clients in more than 20 countries and actively participates in the digital transformation of the economy bringing revenue-generating innovation and creating new jobs.
Yango aligns itself with the vision of the Government of Cameroon epitomized by Head of State Paul BIYA in his speech of December 31, 2015 : “We must catch up as quickly as possible with our delay in the development of the digital economy. This is a real growth accelerator in addition to being a real job niche for our youth. We can take full advantage of it”.
Driven by the President of the Republic’s encouraging words they made the decision to invest in Cameroon and launch Yango digital platform in November 2021.
Their investment enabled local transport companies to reach 35% average turnover growth ensuring better security and comfort to the passengers.
Taking into account the aforementioned, they were surprised by the decision of the Ministry of Transport, which they believe to be a result of a misunderstanding of Yango’s business model.
At the same time, while they are inviting local transport operators to comply with the new regulations in force, they underline the fact that currently, their activities are not suspended in Cameroon.
Yango has already addressed MINT to provide clarification on the concrete steps its partners, local transport operators, need to take to align with the Decree 8801 of October 10, since no communiques explaining those steps have been made despite being stipulated in its text.
Yango is committed to Cameroonian people, responsible and compliant with all regulations applied to international digital platforms. They are committed as well to support their loyal partners in Cameroon and together with them, work out a solution amicable for all of the parties involved. They continue to engage with relevant Cameroonian authorities to dispel any possible misunderstandings.
