Fear has taken over the minds of employees of the Douala International Seaport Terminal (DIT) because the new concessionaire of the container terminal of the Autonomous Port of Douala; the Swiss TIL, has not shown any willingness to take over the entire workforce of DIT as of 2020.
The company would like to minimize costs and hire low wages. This should push DIT to proceed with the dismissal of most of its staff, for economic reasons.
This staff includes 440 employees. 99% of them are Cameroonians.
Even if they get re-hired by The Swiss TIL, which will not necessarily be the case for all of them, they will have to lose the various benefits acquired at DIT like housing bonuses, transportation bonuses etc … “
