Head of government Joseph Dion Ngute, has hosted members of parliament and some Elite from the Northwest region in a special dinner, which served as a medium to talk peace and development in the conflict-stricken region.
The Prime Minister said the Northwest region has suffered considerably from the current crisis. He encouraged the members of parliament to explore their special connection to the grassroots and convince young fighters to “drop their weapons and accept president Paul Biya’s offer of peace”.
He also urged the lawmakers to act on the momentum provided by some villages in the region, that are rising against separatists in their communities.
“With this spirit, not long from now, we are going to see peace return to the Northwest region,” said the Vice President of the Senate – Mochiggle Vanigansen, who equally responded to the Prime Minister’s call.
During the special dinner which came a week after the one that brought together MPs from the Southwest region, the Northwest Elite signaled their resolve to multiply efforts towards peacebuilding in their region.
