Pope Francis has said that preference of pets over babies is inhumane and has encouraged everyone to overcome the fear of raising children. He was speaking during a general audience at the Vatican on Wednesday.
Persons who are not able to put to birth were also called upon to adopt.“This kind of choice is among the highest forms of love, and of fatherhood and motherhood,” the Pope said of adoption. “How many children in the world are waiting for someone to take care of them!”
“Today … we see a form of selfishness, we see that some people do not want to have a child. Sometimes they have one, and that’s it, but they have dogs and cats that take the place of children. This may make people laugh but it is a reality” Pope Francis said.
He acknowledged that having a child is always a risk, but pointed out that “there is more risk in not having a child, in denying paternity”.
Many have criticized the Pontiff’s views considering the fact that the Roman Catholic clergy are not allowed to get married or have children
