Rigobert Song has said during his last meeting with Joel Matip, the Liverpool defender asked to be given time to think about his return to the national team.
Song made the revelation in the recent publication of the FECAFOOT Magazine ‘Corner’.
He said “before my appointment, the President of FECAFOOT permitted me to carry out a mini-tour in Europe to meet the dual nationals, and other players who had decided for several reasons to retire themselves from the national team. I must say that the discussions were constructive altogether.”
Rigobert Song expressed the wish to see Joel Matip put on the jersey of the Indomitable Lions, though pointing out that there is not much time.
“I’m still waiting, but it should be understood that, I don’t have all the time. At some point, it is important that I take decisions, because I’m under pressure” the former captain indicated.
The AFCON 2023 qualifiers, as well as the World Cup in Qatar, are fast approaching, and the technical staff of the Cameroon national football team is doing everything possible to have a solid squad before the competitions begin. This accounts for the continuous efforts put together to get players like Joel Matip, despite their reluctance.
