Senegal’s Keita Balde scores serie A’s fastest hat-trick

Senegal attacker Keita Balde set a new record for the quickest hat-trick in the Italian Serie A with a quickfire treble, netting three first-half goals for Lazio against Palermo on Sunday.

Lazio took a 5-0 lead to the interval after Ciro Immobile scored two goals in two minutes to see the host lead 2-0 within 10 minutes into the game but that was until the Balde show started.

The Senegalese scored his first of the day in the 21st minutes after bulldozing his way past Palermo defence before sneaking an effort from close range under the goalkeeper.

A penalty in the 24th minute saw him join Immobile on a quick brace. But the 22-year-old was not done yet and returned to seal his hat-trick with a slick chip past the goalkeeper from the angle in the 26th minute. In doing so, Balde scored this campaign’s 17th hat-trick and the Serie A’s fastest hat-trick in 42 years.

His country man Sadio Mane smashed the Premier League record for the fastest hat-trick in May 2015, with his treble for Southampton against Aston Villa.

Mane struck three times in two minutes and 56 seconds in the first half of Saints’ 6-1 demolition of Tim Sherwood’s Villa at St Mary’s.

It eclipsed Robbie Fowler’s effort of four minutes and 33 seconds for Liverpool against Arsenal to comfortably take the title of the quickest in the history of Britain’s top flight in its current guise.
