Cameroon is yet to grab a medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which started on July 23. The hopes of having at least one athlete in the boxing team mount the podium, were shattered after Maxime Yegnong lost against Ivan Veriasov from Russia on Thursday, 29 July.
Yegnong held the last chance for Cameroon to be put in the spotlight in boxing but unfortunately, he came up short against his opponent on Thursday. The defeat has been attributed to refereeing lapses by coach Alain Didier Ngatcha.
Table tennis player, Sarah Hanffou, was the first athlete of the West African country to be kicked out of the planetary event in Tokyo, Japan. She was followed by Wilfried Seyi and Albert Mengue, both boxers and then judoka Arrey Sophina.
The rest of the athletes out of the twelve-man delegation representing Cameroon, still have a chance of making supporters back home and across the world proud by securing victories. The competition will run till the 8th of August 2021.
