Ugandan music star Bobi Wine sworn in as MP

Robert Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, a popular Ugandan musician has been sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Kyadondo East in the capital, Kampala. Africa news reports.
Bobi Wine who ran as an independent candidate in the elections was sworn in on Tuesday and will represent the Kyadondo East constituency in central Kampala until 2021.

The parliamentary seat was declared vacant in April after the candidate for Forum for Democratic Change, Apollo Kantinti’s win was annulled by a High Court for non-compliance with electoral laws.
Bobi Wine won a by-election sweeping 77.7 percent of vote cast on June 29, beating four other contenders.

Ugandan comedian Kato Lubwama, soldier and singer General Elly Tumwine, and radio personality Peter Ssematimba are among the many celebrities turned politicians in the country.
Bobi Wine has charmed his followers even more, but only time will tell whether his performance in Parliament will be as outstanding as it is in music.
He has pledged to fight and represent his people as a legislator.
