The basketball Lionesses of Cameroon have been placed in group A of the 2021 AfroBasket. The hosts will play against Cape Verde and Kenya all in the same group.
The draw was conducted on July 31, at the Yaounde conference center after the event was initially scheduled to be held at the Canal Olympia of the capital city. The teams that will participate in the tournament coming up this September, have been placed in four groups as follows.
Group A (Cameroon, Cape Verde, Kenya), Group B (Nigeria, Mozambique), Group B (Senegal, Egypt and Gabon), Group D (Mali, Ivory Coast).
It is worth noting that Cameroon will be hosting the competition for the second time after the 2015 edition in which they lost the final to Senegal in Yaounde. This year’s tournament will run from 17-26 September.
At the end of the competition, the top two teams will represent Africa in one of the qualifying tournaments for the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Australia.
