Cameroon triumphed over Malawi on Saturday, 13 November in Johannesburg, where they defeated the Flames 4-0. The match counted for the fifth day of the CAF World Cup Qualifiers.
Christian Bassogog proved to be the go-getter towards the end of the encounter, as he netted twice for the Indomitable Lions, in the 85th and 87th minutes.
His goals added to those of Vincent Aboubakar, who broke the silence 23 minutes into the game from the penalty spot, before Zambo Anguissa’s 41st minute goal.
The victory at the Orlando stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, put Cameroon on 12 points and temporarily placed them on the first spot in Group D. Ivory Coast later defeated Mozambique 3-0 in the evening, to take the lead with 13 points. The table is completed by Malawi 3 points, with Mozambique on 1 point.
Despite Saturday’s victory, Cameroon have more work to do when they take on the Ivorians on Tuesday 16 November, at the Japoma stadium. The match will be crucial as both teams will ‘tussle’ to dominate Group D.
