Hillaire Aissi’s family is yet to agree with the staff of the Yaounde Central Hospital, on the cause of their 22-year old boy’s death. They have insisted an autopsy has to be carried out to confirm that he did not die due to the removal of his organs.
While recounting what happened, the Director of the hospital, Prof. Pierre Joseph Fouda, said the autopsy would be carried out, but with an expert brought by the family.
“This patient arrive here on the 10th of September after being stabbed, he came back on the 14th in a state of abdominal infection. He was operated upon by Dr. Biwole the head of the surgical emergency ward, but unfortunately, the patient finally died because it was already a generalized infection.
“When the knife got in, it did not stop at the level of the muscles of the skin, it penetrated and wounded the large intestines inside. We can’t repair this other than operating the stomach. There is no other option than to operate no matter the hospital or country where that is happening. So it is not scandalous to have opened the stomach. That is what had to be done” Prof. Pierre Joseph Fouda explained.
